The final two members of a task force on unexamined sexual-assault evidence were named by Montana’s Attorney General today.

Attorney General Tim Fox’s Communications Director John Barnes says the task force created last month to examine the issue of un-reviewed sexual-assault evidence kits in Montana is now finalized with the latest appointees.

“And these are two very important members in terms of the perception that they are going to bring to the task force. One is Alana Sherstad, she will be the college campus representative on the task force. She is the director of the voice center at Montana State University in Bozeman. The other addition is Debbie Mulchay and she is a certified sexual assault nurse examiner.”

The first action of task force is investigating the number, dates and status of untested sexual-assault evidence kits in possession of law enforcement agencies.

The group will then identify what kits need to be tested and also work to develop future guidelines for sexual-assault kit submission and reviewing.

Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Evidence Task Force members:

  • Deputy Attorney General Jon Bennion (representing the Attorney General’s Office)
  • Rep. Kim Dudik (D-Missoula)
  • Rep. Christy Clark (R-Choteau)
  • Deputy Yellowstone County Attorney Mary Barry (representing county prosecutors)
  • Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman (representing county sheriffs)
  • Great Falls Chief of Police David Bowen (representing police chiefs)
  • Robin Turner, Montana Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (representing victim advocates)
  • Alanna Sherstad, VOICE Center at MSU Bozeman (college campus representative)
