Former secretary of state Brad Johnson will formally announce his campaign for governor next week.  Johnson in July announced that he might run.

Today a staffer confirmed that the Republican is moving from the exploratory phase to a formal campaign. Johnson was elected to Montana’s Public Service Commission last November.

He was secretary of state from 2005 to 2009. At this point he is the most prominent challenger for the Republican nomination to Bozeman businessman Greg Gianforte.
