“When you’re starting a business, and when you’re fleshing out the ideas, you cannot be afraid to admit to yourself that what you’re doing is not good,” says Tom Snyder, creator and owner of Five On Black, a fast casual, health-oriented Brazilian-style restaurant that has locations in Montana and Colorado.
Today on "Can Do: Lessons from Savvy Montana Entrepreneurs," host Arnie Sherman talks with Tom, not yet thirty years old, about his business success and his plans for the future.
Tom started the restaurant a little over five years ago, after winning the Montana-based John Ruffatto Business Startup Challenge. Tom used the winnings to travel to Brazil and refine the restaurant's menu. After a lot of experimenting and a few recipe disasters, Tom opened the first restaurant in 2013 in Missoula, Montana with the help of his wife.
This week you’ll learn about the benefits of treating your staff well, the importance of learning from your mistakes and how to exceed your profit goals within the first few years of starting a business.
