CSKT Reminds Public About Ferry Basin Seasonal Closure

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes released a seasonal closure reminder Monday for the Ferry Basin Wildlife Management Unit in the southwest corner of the reservation. The area is closed each year to non-tribal members to minimize impacts to big game in critical winter and calving ranges from January 1 through May 15.

Fishing access to the Lower Flathead River remains open.

The area is also closed to antler collection by tribal and non-tribal members now through April 30.

The Ferry Basin Wildlife Management Unit is described as lands within: Starting at the south end of Sloan’s Bridge and west along the Ronan/Hot Springs Road until the Schmidt Lookout Road, then west along the Schmidt Lookout Road, then west along the Schmidt Lookout Road to Highway 382 to the Flathead River, then easterly and northerly along the north and west bank of the Lower Flathead River to Sloan’s Bridge, the point of origin.
