Daines, Zinke Condemn President's Executive Actions On Guns

President Obama talks about executive actions to reduce gun violence.

Montana's Republican representatives condemned the President's executive actions on gun control today. Sen. Daines called the President's actions "a gross abuse of executive authority." Rep. Zinke said today's move was no surprise given the President's "tyrannical record."

Senator Daines released the following statement:

“President Obama is jeopardizing the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans with his latest efforts to undermine the Second Amendment. It is a gross abuse of executive authority for the President to unilaterally move forward his ineffective, anti-gun agenda with the stroke of his pen. As Montana’s voice in the United States Senate, I will continue to fight against President Obama’s endless assault on Montanans’ Second Amendment rights.”

Representative Zinke released this statement:

“President Obama’s action to limit law-abiding Montanans’ Second Amendment rights is no surprise given his tyrannical record, but it should still worry every American who values their rights and liberties – whether that be the right to free speech, free press, privacy, protection from illegal search and seizure, or any other enshrined in the Constitution. Barack Obama is the president, not the king.

“I challenge this president to stand up and face the biggest threat to America’s safety: radical Islamic terrorism. Rather than allow terrorists to come to our shores and kill our neighbors, President Obama must fight back and destroy ISIS at their base. Rather than drop pamphlets warning ISIS to flee before we strike, America must strike with resolve and destroy the threat.

“Once again, President Obama is failing America and putting our nation at risk. Congress has already spoken and voted against these types of unconstitutional gun grabs. I will do everything in my power to stop and defund his agenda.”

Senator Tester has not yet released a statement on executive action on guns.
