Dark Money Bill On Thursday's Busy Legislative Agenda

Thursday, Montana legislators will see plenty more bills on the House and Senate floors.

One of the larger bills will be in the Senate, when Republican Senator Duane Ankney presents his bill, Senate Bill 289, to fight dark money in politics.

“They can still do the mudslinging and all that, but you’re going to know who’s throwing the mud at ya. That’s the big difference.

Basically, the bill would make it so that more political contributors have to identify themselves.

Current law allows some groups to simply not list their funders, including names, addresses or occupations.

Ankney says strong opposition to his bill comes from dark money itself.

“If you got dark money working for you, you probably ain’t gonna like it … I want to be perfectly clear, dark money groups walk on both sides of the aisle.”

This bill will likely hit the Senate floor Thursday morning or early afternoon.
