Montana lawmakers are considering a bill to make careless gun handling a criminal offense.

The Montana Senate gave preliminary approval today to a bill to barring  minors from buying or possessing electronic cigarettes.

Missoula County has settled a lawsuit filed by a sheriff's deputy who said she was discriminated against when she was repeatedly questioned about a kiss she shared with a married deputy at her residence during a time when he failed to respond to a 911 call.

Montana Republican Representative Art Wittich of Bozeman is sponsoring a bill to bar Montana agencies from enforcing new federal gun laws.

An 18-month-old boy suffered serious injuries when a pit bull/black Labrador dog bit him in the face in Hungry Horse. The Flathead County sheriff's department says the dog apparently wandered away from its owner and encountered the boy on Wednesday afternoon.

A Corvallis man could face the death penalty in the alleged kidnapping and rape of a 17-year-old mother who authorities say was forcibly injected with methamphetamine over the course of days.

Democratic Senator Jon Tester of Montana is among the co-sponsors of a bill to re-authorize training and other assistance for rural water providers.

The chairman of the Senate Taxation Committee again is trying to simplify Montana’s income tax system. For the second time, the Senate gave initial approval to Senate Bill 171 on a 28-to-20 vote.
