Candidates in Montana's U.S. Senate and House primary elections have spent the final days of their campaigns rallying their bases and working the phones in an effort to get more voters to the polls.

A group behind a ballot initiative to increase Montana’s tobacco tax filed a complaint Monday with the state Commissioner of Political Practices. They allege their opponents engaged in illegal campaign activities. 

A Nevada woman was attacked by a cow elk behind the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel in Yellowstone National Park yesterday. She was flown to a hospital in Idaho Falls. A press release from the park says the elk reared up and kicked 51-year-old Charlene Triplett, multiple times with its front legs, hitting her head, torso and back.

A Canadian mining company plans to challenge a court decision that calls for a more extensive review of a proposal to search for gold, copper and other minerals on private land north of Yellowstone National Park.

State and federal wildlife officials are investigating the shooting death of a grizzly bear in northwestern Montana. The male bear was found dead on a forest road north of Libby in the Kootenai National Forest.
