On tonight's evening newscast: People in Missoula and the Bitterroot Valley are facing another evening of potentially strong winds, after a storm last night blew down trees and powerlines and left thousands without power.

People from Kalispell to East Glacier are reporting a huge smoke plume this afternoon from the Thompson Creek fire inside Glacier National Park.

Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to prevent two miners and their armed supporters from blocking access to public land, and threatening U.S. Forest Service officials involved in a western Montana mining claim dispute.

Public school students are required to be vaccinated against chickenpox and whooping cough by Oct. 1, and a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana Care Van is touring the state to connect families with free or reduced shots.
