First female ambassador to South Korea hoping to spend more time in Montana

The first female ambassador to South Korea is retiring from the U.S. Foreign Service after 35 years.

Part-time Montana resident Kathleen Stephens has served missions in Europe and Asia, and received numerous awards, including the 2009 Presidential Meritorious Service award. Stephens served as ambassador to South Korea from 2008 to 2011, returning to a country she first visited as a Peace Corps volunteer in the 1970s. In this feature interview, Stephens talks with News Director Sally Mauk about her Korean experience, and about the role of diplomacy in the 21st century.

Retired in 2014 but still a presence at MTPR, Sally Mauk is a University of Kansas graduate and former wilderness ranger who has reported on everything from the Legislature to forest fires.
