Corey Stapleton, Republican Candidate for Montana Secretary of State.

Because Montana Secretary of State Linda McCulloch is term-limited, Republican Corey Stapleton and Democrat Monica Lindeen will face each other in the general election to replace her.

Montana’s Secretary of State duties include interpreting state election law and overseeing elections, maintaining official records of the executive branch and the acts of the legislature, and serving on the Board of Land Commissioners.

Corin Cates-Carney recently sat down with the candidates to discuss how they would serve as the next Secretary of State. Here’s that conversation with Corey Stapleton. Find the interview with Monica Lindeen here.

Corin Cates-Carney was the Montana Public Radio news director from early 2020 to mid 2025 after spending more than five years living and reporting across Western and Central Montana.
