Jad Abumrad On Exploring Anxiety

Radiolab's Jad Abumrad will be in Missoula Oct. 23 with his show about "Gut Churn."

In advance of his show Sunday in Missoula, Jad Abumrad of Radiolab talks with MTPR's Michael Marsolek about "Gut Churn."

"This was a feeling that I, in the 14 years of making Radiolab, I just grappled with every single day," says Abumrad.

In the course of thinking about anxiety and "gut churn," Abumrad says, "I got really interested in trying to figure out what's the good kind of gut churn vs. the bad kind, and how should we think about these feelings. Is anxiety good or bad? Is it going to make you more creative, more productive; or when is it debilitating? And so I started doing a ton of interviews with — God, all over the map — poker players, Cherokee shamen, psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, composers, just to figure out how do they think about it. And this talk is basically the result of that, kind of, process of inquiry."

Listen to the interview to learn more from Jad.

Tickets to Sunday's "Gut Churn" show are available here. Hope to see you there!

We're also giving away a couple VIP passes to the show. Interested? http://bit.ly/2elacnB
