Democratic candidates in the primary race for Montana’s lone seat in the U.S. House will face questions from journalists in Helena tonight. The forum hosted by the Greater Montana Foundation comes  a month before the election that will determine who gets to challenge Republican Greg Gianforte.

All five of the Democratic candidates still running in the June 5 primary are scheduled to  attend the forum held at the Montana Historical Society. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is expected to run until 8:30. MTPR plans to broadcast and stream the event live.

Last Saturday they met in a form in Columbia Falls run by their party and affiliated organizations. Tonight, TV reporters Mike Dennison and Beth Saboe will ask the questions.

In the latest campaign ad of the primary race Kathleen Williams, a former state lawmaker from Bozeman, this week pitched herself as someone unwilling to play typical campaign games, including candidate TV ad cliches.

Other candidates, like Grant Kier, a former land trust director from Missoula, came into the race with less name recognition in Montana’s political circles. He’s delivered  a more general  message in his single TV ad so far and in previous debates, as he lets voters know who he is.

The other candidates running in the primary are all attorneys: John Heenan from Billings, Jared Pettinato from Whitefish, and John Meyer from Bozeman.
