Mothers' Milk Bank of Montana now serving region

Off the Mat Into the World

Montana's only breast milk bank has been screening, professionally testing, pasteurizing and distributing human donor milk since early October of last year. Its executive co-director, Jessica Welborn, says outreach efforts - and interest - is growing.

The Mothers' Milk Bank of Montana is the first regional milk bank to serve neonatal intensive care units and individual recipients in Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
In this evening's feature interview with Edward O'Brien, Welborn explains how - and why - she and her co-executive director, Linsey Wiessemann, developed this project:

Edward O’Brien first landed at Montana Public Radio three decades ago as a news intern while attending the UM School of Journalism. He covers a wide range of stories from around the state.
