Mountain Lion Killed After Fight With GNP Employee's Dog

A Glacier National Park ranger shot and killed a mountain lion this weekend as it fought with a park employee's dog.

The dog took a beating, but expected to fully recover,  after tangling with the big cat late Saturday afternoon.

According to park spokeswoman Denise Germann, the fight unfolded in West Glacier's employee housing area.

A worker opened her car door and both her dogs unexpectedly bolted from the vehicle.

Germann says one of them got into a ferocious fight with the mountain lion.

A park ranger arrived and shot the cat to death after it pinned the dog to the ground.

The lion’s body will be examined to determine age and health.
