Mulgrew Miller tribute part two

montereyjazzfestival.org

Part two of a tribute to the late Mulgrew Miller continues as we move into the the present and feature his work over the last 15 years with the likes of Vincent Herring, Jim Rotondi, Lou Soloff, Jeremy Pelt and Ron Carter. We'll also hear music from his own albums, primarily leading a trio. The accomplished pianist, who had successful runs with both Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the 1980's and and the Tony Williams quintet from 1984 until Williams own death in 1997, also inspired modern players like Geoffrey Keezer and Robert Glasper.  We lost Miller last May at 57.

John Arvish is a public school teacher, as well as host and producer of What I Like About Jazz, Muse's Jukebox, and Blues on the Move. He lives with his wife Carrie, their dog Sunny and cat Pokey and a smorgasbord of good music, theater, art and food.
