Tainted Revelations: The Art of Bill Orhmann

"Okay to take pictures. Okay to sit on turtle. Okay to let your dog out. Okay to think your own thoughts (crackpot though they might well be)." These words greet all who visit the domain of 95-year-old Montana artist Bill Ohrmann.

Ohrmann only began seriously painting when he retired from ranching in 1996. Since then, the 95-year-old Montana artist has produced hundreds of canvases that explore his blistering criticism of the modern West. His direct, narrative paintings, often inspired by quotations from his favorite poets and environmental writers, are by turns wry, apocalyptic, horrifying and hilarious.

In our Clip of the Week, Joe Ashbrook Nickell reads from "Tainted Revelations," the book he wrote about painter and sculptor Bill Ohrmann.

Listen to the full interview with Joe Ashbrook Nickell, or hear more from "The Write Question" online, on the air Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., or via podcast.
