A couple of renewable energy groups are trying to change the conversation about energy policy in Montana.
"The markets we sell electricity to are moving away from coal. Change is coming."
This video is part of a new marketing campaign that the Montana Renewable Energy Association and Renewable Northwest unveiled today.
The groups say that Montana needs to change and adapt to new markets demanding green energy. Right now, much of the conversation around energy in the state has to do with the fate of the Colstrip coal-fired power plant. Coal industry boosters and labor unions are working hard to keep Colstrip open.
Renewable Northwest Montana policy manager, Jeff Fox:
“We don’t feel that the conversation surrounding Montana’s energy economy currently is proactive or productive. So the argument isn’t whether things are changing, it should be how do we want to respond to it.”
Fox says the ads will be primarily on websites and social media. There will initially be a billboard ad in Helena, and then more around the state. Fox did not reveal the size of the campaign’s budget.
