Some Yellowstone Roads To Open This Week

Snowplows near the Canyon area in Yellowstone National Park

Spring is in the air and the plows have been busy in Yellowstone. Now, roads leading to Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon area are set to open for auto travel this week.

In a press release today, Yellowstone officials announced that "the road segments from West Yellowstone and Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone will open for the season at 8:00 a.m. Friday." More road segments are scheduled to open in May.

Even better, entry to the park will be free on April 18 and 19 in celebration of National Park Week.

Visitors are advised to prepare for unpredictable weather conditions, and use caution near road crews.

The press release notes: "Even cleared sections of roads can be narrow and covered with a layer of snow, ice and debris. Visitors should use extreme caution when driving as road clearing operations can be ongoing at any time throughout the park. In the case of extreme weather conditions, temporary road closures are also possible with little or no advance warning."
