Town Hall Meeting Aims To Clear Up Confusion Over Veterans Affairs

The Montana Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a town hall-style meeting Thursday night in Helena.

"The event is open to the public, so any veteran or family member, or member of the general public that just wants to learn a little more about what the VA provides are welcome to join us that evening,” said Mike Garcia, Public Affairs Officer for the Montana VA.

Garcia says the event will look a lot like a trade show.

"There’s going to be anywhere from 15 to 20 tables set up, and at each one of those tables, there’s going to be a representative from a specific service or program, offered either by the healthcare system or from the Veterans Benefits office to answer the questions they might have," Garcia said.

Garcia says the VA can be confusing and complex, and this event is designed to help veterans understand what kind of help is available for them.

"There can be, you know, expectations that can be supported, but have to be done in a certain way, so hopefully we can try and dispel some of that complexity and maybe just answer a few questions, and make it a little clearer on how veterans can access the benefits that they’re eligible for and also access health care both here in the Helena area, but also statewide,” Garcia said.

The event starts at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, and runs until 8:30 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Library in Helena.
