Twin-engine plane crashes near Lost Trail ski lodge
One person is confirmed dead after a plane crashed yesterday in the parking lot of Lost Trail Powder Mountain on Highway 93 south at the Montana/Idaho border. Ravalli County Undersheriff, Steve Holton, says Ravalli County dispatch began receiving calls about the crash shortly after 5:00 yesterday afternoon. Preliminary information suggests the plane was a Grumman G-21, an amphibious twin engine aircraft.
Officials believe the pilot was the plane's only occupant. Holton says the crash and subsequent fire was very intense and there's not much left of the aircraft. Lost Trail's lodge was not damaged and nobody on the ground was injured. There's no snow on the ground in the area, but Holton says it was snowing and raining at the time of the accident. Federal Aviation Administration officials are investigating.
