National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Kitsmiller reports temperatures in parts of western Montana climbed into the 50s  Thursday afternoon.

"Which kind of makes you wonder what month it is," Kitsmiller says. "If you are wondering, you probably won’t be tomorrow morning when we’re sitting in the 20s."

An arctic cold front is pushing into western Montana, bringing with it a wintery mix of snow, wind and bitterly cold temperatures.

"The change that we’re seeing here, definitely be prepared for much colder temperatures tomorrow morning," Kitzmiller says. "The road conditions will probably be all over the place. This is definitely a time to be cautious when we get to Friday morning’s commute."

Helena public schools canceled all Friday classes due to the dangerous weather conditions.

West Glacier may get 6 to 8 inches of snow by tomorrow morning, with 2 to 4 inches possible in other parts of northwest Montana.

Avalanche danger is high throughout Glacier National Park and the Flathead Range.

West Central Montana will probably only get a skiff of snow overnight, but the wind will drop those wind chills into the single digits by Friday morning.

Meteorologist Jeff Kitsmiller says the weather will present a considerable risk to newborn livestock.
