'Protectors' Gather In Montana, Show Solidarity With Standing Rock Sioux

Self-titled "Protectors" gathered on the Higgins Street Bridge on September 13, 2016 to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline. Other rallies happened in Whitefish, Poplar, and Lame Deer.

Montanans joined in organizing four of the estimated 200 events nationwide yesterday in support of the protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Environmental and tribal organizations rallied in Poplar, Lame Deer, Whitefish and Missoula, where our Flathead Valley reporter Nicky Ouellet and Missoula reporter Cole Grant gathered these stories.

Anti-Keystone X-L Pipeline protests popped up across the state and the country on Monday in response to a recent State Department report. The report came out last week and stated that the Pipeline itself would pose no significant increase to greenhouse gas emissions.         At a protest in Whitefish Steve Thompson with Glacier Climate Action said they wanted to send a clear message against building the Keystone X-L Pipeline.
