Missoula's International Choral Festival

The 2016 Choral Festival is over, but you can still enjoy music from around the world performed at this year's festivities.

This program includes interviews with singers and conductors from the Choir of East Mikeladze Central Music School, Republic of Georgia; The Ellerhein Girls' Choir, Estonia; Heartland Youth Choir, Des Moines, Iowa; and Cantores de Cienfuegos, Cuba.

That’s Karen Somerset, talking about the International Choral Festival, a four-day celebration of singing and culture that happens in Missoula every three years. This is Festival week and Karen and her husband, Ray, are hosting people from Poland.

Put a little Cuban flavor into your day. Watch Cantores de Cienfuegos sing "Beautiful and Spicy" in a live performance on Montana Public Radio. Or listen to their entire studio session. They're in Missoula along with dozens of other choirs for the International Choral Festival that begins today.

Every three years for nearly three decades, the International Choral Festival has presented singers from around the world in concert in Missoula, Montana. The 2016 festival runs Wednesday through Saturday, July 13 - 16. Tune in to Montana Public Radio for specials and live performances throughout the week.

Far removed from common notions about choral music are the choirs that participated in Missoula’s 2013 International Choral Festival. They came from Australia, Germany, South Korea, Finland, Canada, Lawrence, Kansas, China, Switzerland, New Jersey, Poland, Taiwan, California, Estonia, and Costa Rica to sing in packed auditoriums and in city parks for four days in July.
