The 59th Season opens with Governor Steve Bullock narrating the powerful words by and about President Lincoln in Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. This spirit of Americana is coupled with maverick Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 2, complete with gospel tunes, American songs, and barn-dancing fiddles. The season opener culminates with Beethoven’s revolutionary testament in THE groundbreaking and mighty Eroica Symphony. The evening concludes with a dessert reception in the Helena Civic Center Ballroom.

Musician's Spotlight, September 3rd, 2013: Nathalie Pires

Her father named her after a Julio Iglesias song, but it was the mysterious sounds of Fado music, from her family's homeland of Portugal, that captivated young "Jersey girl" Nathalie Pires and inspired her musical career, bringing Fado's soaring melodies and dramatic stories to audiences across the globe.

"Front Row Center," Sunday, September 1st, 2013: Michael Marsolek talks with Traolach O'Riordain, Director of the Irish Studies Program at The University of Montana, about the Fall 2013 Irish Music Concert Series hosted by the Friends of Irish Studies of the West.

In the "Old-News-Is-Good-News" Department: The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture has acquired The Mothership. Starting in 2015, you'll be able to admire the spacecraft that, amid a blaze of stagecraft and cannabis smoke, brought funkadelic to the people. Actually, it's a replica Mothership, built in the 1990s; the whereabouts of the original are unknown.
