Winner of the of the Americana Music Association's "Artist of the Year" award in 2007, Patty Griffin is touring in support of her seventh album, American Kid.  A collection of songs focused on her late father, this album marks a powerful return to her own writing.   At turns romantic and at others uplifting, Patty gives voice to the joys and challenges of middle age. 

Boisterous ska-jazz-funk band, The Cat Empire, have released their infectious, cheeky and fun sixth album.   The first single, Brighter Than Gold, is a great way to get a party started:

Festival volunteers and host families for members of the chorales are still needed.

The International Choral Festival is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting artistic excellence, global understanding, friendship, and goodwill through choral music.

Three gorgeous women, three gorgeous voices.    And they’re all named Laura!

Laura Mvula is a young, British soul-singer with a big, lush, smoky voice.   There's a touch of baroque in her songs, a touch of torch singer.  She travels from big diva ballads to mysterious, intimate introspections. 

It is hard to avoid asking whether she is the "new Adele", but she brings more to my mind Nina Simone.  Her debut CD, Sing to the Moon, is out now on RCA Victor.    The single, Green Garden, is a fair introduction:
