Iceland Rocks

Aug 11, 2013

Maybe it is something to do with the landscape, but with a population only a little bigger than Spokane (about 320, 000), Iceland produces more than its fair share of talented musicians.   The well-known names include Björk, Jónsi and his band Sigur Rós, as well as youngsters Of Monsters and Men.

Michael Marsolek talks with John Zoltek, Music Director of Glacier Symphony and Chorale, about the sixth annual Festival Amadeus, August 4-10 in Whitefish, MT. Eight guest soloists will perform chamber and orchestral music over seven nights with the Festival Amadeus Orchestra, kicking off with the free Open Air Concert in Whitefish's Depot Park, Sunday, August 4th, 7:30-9:30pm.

When Two Jazz Greats Collide.

Jul 22, 2013

Pat Metheny plays John Zorn.     And why not?     While Zorn is best known for his sometimes difficult, avant-garde jazz, Metheny is no stranger to blistering experimentation.   On Tap: The Book of Angels, Vol. 20, Metheny returns to a style he worked in 1994 with Ornette Coleman (‘Song X’), solo in 1994 ('Zero Tolerance for Silence') and then with Derek Bailey in 1996 ('Sign of 4').
