Drug Testing For Food Stamp Recipients On Monday's Legislative Agenda

On Monday, the Montana Legislature will hear a contentious bill sponsored by Republican Representative Randall Pinocci. House Bill 200 would require drug testing for those who claim to have had a drug problem in a form used to apply for food stamps.

Pinocci says this bill could protect children.

Healthy Montana Initiative

All over Montana this week, people were peering outside and breathing a sigh of relief.  The sun is out, the temperature is above freezing, the snow is melting.  Early signs of spring are appearing.   Many of us are beginning to think ahead to spring and summer – the hiking and camping, rafting and floating, road trips and barbeques.  But for some Montanans, while the weather is improving, they are still living day-to-day without access to healthcare.

Post-Shutdown: Where Do We Go From Here?

Last Thursday, sixteen days into a federal government shutdown, Congress passed a temporary budget that re-opened the government and raised the debt ceiling until January of 2014.  This agreement sent federal employees back to work and diverted a potential default on national debt, and that is inarguably a good thing.  However, for those of us that watched in dismay as partisan politics left our country uncertain, our economy weakened, and our government in disarray, there are larger lessons to be learned from the last few weeks.
