Michael Marsolek talks with Fern Glass Boyd, cellist and Artistic Director of the String Orchestra of the Rockies, and mezzo-soprano Kimberly James about the November 22, 2015 SOR performance titled "Dido - Queen of Carthage."

String Orchestra of the Rockies kicks of their 31st season with a concert titled "Sweet" Italianne, featuring cellist Matt Haimovitz. The performance will take place Sunday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on the University of Montana Campus.

Cellist Matt Haimovitz joined us today to talk about his upcoming performance, "Sweet" Italienne with the String Orchestra of the Rockies. That show is on Sunday, Sep. 20, 7:30 p.m. at the Music Recital Hall on the University of Montana campus. Tickets are still available.

"Death and the Maiden" is the title of the February 22, 2015 performance by the String Orchestra of the Rockies. Featured violinist Maria Larionoff and double bassist Barry Lieberman founded the American String Project, a fifteen-member conductorless string orchestra that bears some resemblance to Montana's SOR.

Michael Marsolek talks with Fern Glass Boyd, artistic director of the String Orchestra of the Rockies, about the concerts opening the S.O.R.'s 30th season. Sept. 21st and 22nd, the String Orchestra's performances in Missoula and Seeley Lake feature frequent guest soloist and collaborator, cellist Amit Peled. This concert marks Peled's fifth performance with the S.O.R.

It'll take place Sunday, May 4th, 2014, at 7:30pm in the Music Recital Hall in the School of Music at the University of Montana-Missoula. On the program:

Peter Sculthorpe’s Little Suite for Strings W. 169;

Violinist Adele Anthony has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles around the world, and will soon be in Missoula for a concert with the String Orchestra of the Rockies. A native of Tasmania, Anthony studied at Juilliard, and won her first major competition at the age of 13.
    In this feature interview with News Director Sally Mauk, Anthony says her interest in the instrument began at a very young age.
